Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year in the Big Spring School District. The Board of School Directors, administration, and staff work diligently to provide a safe, productive learning environment that leads to a positive educational experience for each student. As Superintendent of Schools, I feel blessed to lead a district where the motto “Ever, Always Strong” reaches throughout all of our schools and our community. This message especially rings true this year as we work through the challenges of a global pandemic. Our ability to stay ever, always strong not only guides our educational community but also supports the health and welfare of our greater community as well.
The support we receive on a daily basis from families and community members continues to set the Big Spring School District apart as a learning organization that focuses on all students and ensures they grow and become “life-ready” during their time here. This year’s calendar showcases our “Community of Learning,” a theme that is certainly displayed in the vision for all children that can be found in our Profile of a Graduate. As we build off of the 6Cs designated in the profile, we prepare our students for experiences in and out of school via our focus on “21st Century Skills” that ensure life-ready graduates. Each month of the calendar focuses on partnerships with community stakeholders that bring relevance to our students’ learning and support our Profile of a Graduate work. Whether it be 5th grade Career Day where we expose students to continuous learning or our middle school trout release where we emphasize our students’ role as global citizens, Big Spring ensures that students are part of a community of learners with a clear focus on our Profile of a Graduate.
Our staff at Big Spring stands ready to work with parents and community members to build partnerships that benefit the most important facet of our district: our children. The Big Spring community is a wonderful setting to raise a family. As I finish my sixteenth year as Superintendent of Schools at Big Spring, I’m more convinced now than ever that our community has special qualities that can benefit each family. Our school district provides a well-rounded education that builds on the special qualities and values that are so important to our fine community. Reinforcing those core values and continuing that tradition while striving to challenge all students to reach their full potential in becoming “life-ready” remains my focus as Superintendent of Schools. We will work tirelessly to become the best that we can be as a school district so that our students benefit every day from being Bulldogs. With a supportive Board of School Directors, quality administrators, devoted teachers and support staff, and committed families that value education, we will strive together every day to ensure that Big Spring continues to be an exceptional community of learning.
I encourage you to stay engaged with our schools to see firsthand the quality education that I experienced as a student and now witness as Superintendent. Follow our students working throughout the year and see how they are bringing to life the 6Cs within our Profile of a Graduate. You will find learning experiences focused on building lifelong skills that support each student in becoming a Global Citizen/Empathetic Advocator, Creator/Innovator, Continuous Learner, Collaborator, Critical Thinker/Problem Solver, and Communicator. There are wonderful things going on in the Big Spring District, and we want to share them all with this remarkable community.
Please take some time to review the information contained in this 2020-21 calendar. Again, the theme for the calendar this year is “A Community of Learning.” I encourage you to peruse the photographs and narratives contained on each month of the calendar that clearly illustrate a system that invites our students to challenge themselves to grow in a manner that will lead them far beyond the walls of Big Spring. Thank you again for all the support you provide that allows our students to achieve their potential on a daily basis.
