2026 School Real Estate Tax Bill Error Information

It has come to our attention that some 2026 school real estate tax bills contain incorrect ownership information. Below is the statement from Cumberland County regarding this matter:

The Cumberland County Assessment Office, with support from local tax collectors, has identified an issue stemming from a recent computer system update that caused incorrect ownership names to appear on some school district real estate tax bills mailed on July 1.

Cumberland County maintains assessment records for more than 105,000 properties. At this time, fewer than 1% of properties are estimated to be affected. County staff are working with the software vendor to identify the cause of the error and correct affected records as quickly as possible.

School district real estate tax bills are based on parcel information up through April 30. Any address changes or ownership changes between this date and when bills were printed will not be reflected. Any taxpayer who received a tax bill for a previous address or who hasn’t received a tax bill yet should also follow the process for reporting errors.

Property owners who notice incorrect ownership names on their tax bill should contact the Cumberland County Assessment Office by email at taxassessment@cumberlandcountypa.gov or by calling 717.240.6350, Option 1, to request an update to their property record. Once corrections are made, the updated information will be provided to the appropriate local tax collector. Property owners do not need to contact their local tax collector directly.

Ownership name discrepancies do not change the tax obligation associated with a property. This error affects only the listed owner's name. All other tax information remains accurate, including the parcel number, assessed value, and school tax calculation. Property owners remain responsible for paying all taxes by the deadlines listed on the original tax bill.

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause and thank our residents for their patience and understanding as we work to resolve the issue and ensure the accuracy of our assessment records.

Big Spring School District will be using Remote Learning Days this year for days that present inclement weather.

If we use a Remote Learning Day, students will follow a remote schedule that has them logging in to a Google Meet to allow teachers the opportunity to explain the assignment for the day. Students will then complete the assignment from home that day. Seesaw or Google Classroom will be used by teachers to provide any needed materials.

Please note Google Meets begin at 9 AM for all students.
